Starting a Garden - Part 2

Posted By: David Johnson

After reading the first article, you should have a good idea of where you want to plant your garden. At this point, you will be trying to figure out what you should plant. Last year we planted the following vegetables: tomato, cucumber, yellow squash, and zucchini squash. We planted everything from seed and all but 2 of the tomato mounds came up and produced a good crop. Out of all of them, the tomato and squash are still doing the best.

For a new grower, your best bet would be to start with something easy that does not take up that much room. Tomatoes can be grown in a large planter and we will show you how next spring. Since this article deals with in ground gardens, the best bet would be to grow something you will eat. If you like the produce, you are much more likely to take the time to care for you garden.

That is it for this week. Next week we will discuss the watering cycle! Until then, have a great day.
