Starting a Garden From Seed

Posted By: David Johnson

Most people today use seedlings to start their garden. In our garden, we only use seed. Growing a garden from seed can be an exciting adventure full of hardship yet also full of rewards. Since you start from seed, there are additional preparations that must be taken before starting your garden.
  • Make sure the ground is clear of weeds and grasses.
  • You must start after the final freeze.
  • Allow some of the produce to remain and seed so that you do not have to plant the next year.
  • Seeds require water and sunlight to sprout. Do not over water though as seeds can rot.
  • Once the plants are above ground, you must protect it from the wind.
  • After the plant has reached about 3 to 4 inches, treat it as you would a normal seedling.
If you follow those simple rules, anyone can grow their own garden from seed! In time, each step will receive its own article. Please come back throughout this growing season for our garden pictures.
