He who has an ear, let him hear

Wednesday, November 19th, 2008

Like many people, I enjoy listening to music while I work.  In fact, I get more work done while listening to music than if I listened to nothing.  What type of music do I listen to?  I am glad you asked.  I listen to a few different stations depending on what mood I am in.  They all share a common thing in that they are all gospel music.  I find that if I am able to worship with song while I work, I increase my productivity by at least 50%.

So now that you know what genre of music I listen to, you are probably wondering what style of gospel music I like.  When people think of gospel music, they think of church hymns or maybe the Christian power anthems.  Well, I dont really listen to either of them.  I mainly listen to a station I found on iTunes called TheBlast.FM. They play a lot of Christian alternative rock music and it all sings God’s praises. This is my main get stuff done kind of music. Hard and loud yet full of love for God. There are times when I need something softer.

During those times, I typically listen to Air1.  They are the only quasi-rock station we have here and if I need to listen to something not as hard, that is the station I find the most enjoyable.  The only problem I have with them, is they play the same songs over and over and over again.  But then all stations do, so it is something everyone listening to any station, either on the radio or the internet, has to deal with.

Actually, those are not the only two stations I listen to.  There is another station on iTunes that plays Japanese Christian music and sometimes that is pretty cool.  There are days that my brain cannot handle another language and there are days when I want to listen to another language.

So now you know what I listen to.  I guess I can cover some of my favorite bands too.  That might help someone find a new song they enjoy.  I do not have a lot of favorite bands, so maybe I will cover them only occasionally.

New Star Trek Trailer

Tuesday, November 18th, 2008

I noticed today that there is a new Star Trek trailer up on Apple’s website.  The first trailer was interesting… but this one is simply spectacular!  The visual effects remind me of last year’s Speed Racer and really seemed to grab my attention.  My wife and I enjoy seeing movies at the local drive-in and I have no doubt that we will be going to see it come next May.

The only potential problem I can see will be the youth of the actors.  They really look young, almost teenager young.  That could be a benefit as it might bring in more viewers.  The more people that watch a movie, the better the movie does.

As much as I like teasers, I really want to see more of how they construct the interior of the Enterprise.  It would be nice if it was close to the original but with higher technology.  If they can have warp speed spacecraft and hover bikes, I highly doubt that they will have levers and knobs to increase speed, turn, etc.

Go and enjoy the new Star Trek trailer and make plans to see it next May!
